Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 8, 2026
The short version: we collect only what we need to run the club, we never sell it, and you can ask us to see or delete it at any time. Here are the details.
Who's responsible
AFTER DARK is run by Chantel Kwarciak in Ontario, Canada, who is responsible for the personal information described here. For anything privacy-related, email hello@afterdarkclubhouse.com.
What we collect
- Your account: your email address, your password (stored scrambled by our login provider, never in plain text) and your date of birth. We use your date of birth to confirm you're 19 or older and to unlock your birthday drink during your birthday week. No other member can see it.
- Your card: your display name, profile photo if you add one, member number, membership type and the date you joined.
- Your stamps: which drinks, eats, watches, Nights and books you've stamped, and when.
- What you write: Chat posts and replies, Book Club comments and book votes, private notes, and any reports you file.
- Blocked posts: if our safety filter stops something you tried to post, we keep a copy so we can review it.
- Notifications: only if you turn them on in My Card. We keep your device's notification address and which ones you picked, and delete them when you turn notifications off. A note notification says who it's from, never what it says.
- Your purchase: that you paid, how much and when. Your card details go straight to Stripe. We never see or store them.
- Visits: we use Cloudflare's privacy-friendly visitor counter, which doesn't use cookies or track you across other sites. Your browser also keeps you logged in by storing a login token on your device.
We don't use advertising trackers, and we don't buy or sell personal information.
Why we use it
To run your account and membership, show your card and stamps, let you take part in Chat, Book Club and private notes, take payment, send account emails (like confirming your email or resetting your password), keep the club safe and adults-only, and meet our legal and tax obligations. We don't use your information for anything else without asking you first.
Who can see what
- Other members can see your display name, approved profile photo, whether you're a Founding member, and what you post in Chat and Book Club. They can't see your email address, date of birth, stamps or which book you voted for. They only see the vote totals.
- Private notes are between you and the member you're writing with. We don't read them as a habit, but we can when we need to: if a note is reported, to keep someone safe, or if the law requires it.
- We can see account details, photos waiting for approval, reports and blocked posts, so we can run and protect the club. We only look when we need to.
Companies that help us run AFTER DARK
We use a few trusted services, and only share what each one needs:
- Supabase: our database, logins, account emails and photo storage.
- Cloudflare: hosting the website and counting visits.
- Stripe: payments.
- Apple, Google or Mozilla: if you turn on notifications, your phone or browser maker delivers them. The message is scrambled so they can't read it.
- Google Fonts: the lettering on the site. Your browser fetches the fonts from Google.
Some of these companies store or process information outside Canada, including in the United States, where it may be accessible under local laws.
How long we keep it
- Your account information, posts and stamps: for as long as your account is open.
- Payment records: 6 years, because Canadian tax law requires it.
- Blocked posts and reports: up to 12 months, or longer if we need them for a legal report about child safety.
When you close your account, we delete your card, photo, posts, comments, private notes and stamps. Copies can stay in our providers' backups for a short time before they're overwritten.
Your rights
You can ask to see the personal information we have about you, correct it, or have it deleted, and you can delete your account at any time from My Account, or just email us. We'll answer within 30 days. You can change your display name and photo yourself under My Account, and delete your own posts whenever you like.
If you're not happy with how we've handled a privacy concern, please tell us first. You can also contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.
Adults only
AFTER DARK is only for adults 19 and older. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone younger. If we learn that we have, we delete the account and its information.
Emails
We only send emails about your account, like confirming your address or resetting your password. If we ever start a newsletter, we'll ask before adding you, and every email will have an unsubscribe link.
Keeping it safe
Every connection to AFTER DARK is encrypted. Our database only lets each member read what they're allowed to see, admin tools are restricted to admins, and photos are reviewed before they're shown. No system is perfect, so please use a strong password you don't use anywhere else. If a breach ever put your information at real risk, we'd tell you and report it to the Privacy Commissioner, as the law requires.
Changes
We may update this policy as the club grows. If we make an important change, we'll tell members before it takes effect.
